Why Meghan Markle kept Prince Harry away from her father, Thomas Markle

Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle, have been estranged since before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, an event he famously missed due to health issues. 

Despite years passing, Thomas has still never met his son-in-law or grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Royal author Hugo Vickers recently offered three possible reasons for this on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show. 

First, he speculated Meghan may have been "ashamed" of her father. Second, she may have believed Thomas had wronged her, though he supported her marriage by telling Harry, “You can marry her as long as you never raise your hand against her.” 

The third theory: Meghan feared her father might have warned Harry, saying “this girl” wasn’t who he thought she was.

Though Meghan tried to reconnect through texts and a heartfelt letter, the relationship deteriorated further when Thomas leaked parts of her letter to the media.

Now 80, Thomas has relocated to Southeast Asia with Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Jr. Despite their rift, Thomas has publicly said his “door is always open.” 

But whether a reconciliation, or introduction to Harry, will ever happen remains uncertain.
