The Foo Fighters have fired their drummer of two years, Josh Freese, who took over in 2023 after the death of their long time guitarist Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
“The Foo Fighters called me on Monday to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer,'” explained Freese in a social media post.
“No reason was given. : ( In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry—just a bit sad and disappointed,” he continued, having played for bands such as Devo, A Perfect Circle, Guns N’ Roses, The Vandals, and more.
Having played on several gigs and festivals with them, he also was a part of their 2023 album, But Here We Are.
The Foo Fighters have been mostly quiet since they cancelled all their gigs following the reveal that group member Dave Grohl had had a child with a woman who was not his wife.
A day after Freese received the call that fired him, they announced that they would be performing at the Singapore Grand Prix in October 2025.
Their new drummer for the performance is yet to be determined.
