Leonardo DiCaprio paid tribute to the late pontiff after he was announced dead on Easter Monday
Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio paid an emotional tribute to the late Pope Francis, who was announced to be dead on Easter Monday by the Vatican.
The Pope was the leader of Catholic Church, whose passing garnered responses and messages of condolences from all over the world regardless of their faith.
The Oscar winner remembered the pontiff in a heartwarming throwback moment from when he met him in January 2016.
Sharing pictures of his meeting with the Pope, the actor wrote “'Pope Francis was a transformational leader — not only for the Catholic Church, but also for environmental reform and activism.”
The film star applauded the late leader for his environmental activism, as he is also known for being a vocal advocate of fight against climate crisis.
“He demonstrated a deep and unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, most notably through his groundbreaking 2015 encyclical Laudato Si”, Leonardo wrote appreciating his efforts.
Leonardo recalled his meeting with the Pope in January 2016 when they met while he was filming for his documentary Before the Flood, calling the experience “enlightening, deeply moving and thought provoking”.
