Dick Van Dyke's love for Arlene Silver proves age doesn't matter. The Tony Award winner spoke candidly about Arlene in a rare interview and shared his feelings about their 46-year age gap.
During a conversation with People magazine at the fundraiser, the Grammy winner stated, "We get along so well."
Furthermore, he said, “Everybody said it wouldn’t work,” and his wife strongly agreed with him.
Silver, 53, added, “We just care about each other so much,” and revealed that their marriage is going smoothly.
Silver jokingly continued, “People the same age don’t last.”
Dyke recalled meeting Arlene for the first time at the 2006 SAG Awards, “I never said hello to a strange girl in my life, I was too scared. But I was at a show backstage and she walked by, and for some reason, I just jumped up and said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ There’s something about her [that] got me, and I was right.”
Following their first meeting, Matlock's star hired Silver as a makeup artist, and they eventually started dating years afterward.
The Carolina actress shared that Van “made me feel like I can do anything.”
In 2012, the duo exchanged vows when the Scrubs actor was 86 years old and Silver was 40.
Before marrying Arlene, Dick was married to Margie Willett for 36 years and had four children named Christian, Barry, Stacy, and Carrie Beth.
