Meghan Markle may have planned for 2025 to be the year of her reawakening on the lifestyle and Hollywood scene, with new shows and podcasts and even the launch of a brand, but things may prove to be a bit rocky for the Duchess of Sussex.
The 43-year-old former Suits star kicked off the year by announcing the release of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, followed by the release of her new podcast series, Confessions of a Female Founder. At the same time, she also rebranded and launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, selling jams, preserves, and such.
While all this may seem like things are going well for the Sussex matriarch, the scathing critic reviews and online commentary about her ventures say otherwise.
It seems like Meghan is failing to capture the kind of audience she would ideally want for her ventures, instead raking in views from those who may not necessarily be watching or consuming her content for the right reasons; read, hate watching.
While the Duchess’s Netflix show landed in the global Top 10 list upon release, and the first stock of As Ever products selling out soon after launch, the reviews and general sentiment surrounding them have not exactly been positive. But even more importantly, Meghan’s hometown audience in the US seems strangely disinterested.
Experts have pointed out the same, signaling a grave warning to Meghan about the future of her business ventures, and the Sussex brand in general, which already remains deeply entrenched in controversies and scandals.
As The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson pointed out, “Meghan's podcast is very US-focused. I think all her guests are mainly based in America so far. But I think the American media have mainly ignored it.”
“I'm led to believe that it's not really being picked up by the American media, which surely would be her target if she was moving into that sphere,” he added.
As Americans continue to find entertainment elsewhere, and seem very much over ‘the royals from the other side of the pond’, experts also noted how audiences in the UK seem to very much be over Meghan too.
“Does that suggest then that the British audience, you know, are very much loving to hate Meghan and perhaps by extension Harry, and the US just don't care anymore? Although the reviews are bad, people are still watching it,” Cameron Walker of GB News commented.
He went on to question, “So the question is going to be, are people watching it because they love to hate it or do they genuinely enjoy watching it or listening?”
Meghan Markle, since stepping away from the royal family in 2020, resides in Montecito, with husband Prince Harry and their two children Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
