Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars caught in a legal battle

American singer Miley Cyrus won two Grammys for her hit song Flowers that was released in 2023.

The chart-topper was rumoured to be about Cyrus’ former husband Liam Hemsworth.

The song got Miley Cyrus in trouble as it was suspected to be a copy of Bruno Mars’ 2012 song When I Was Your Man.

Cyrus was sued for copyright infringement by Tempo Music Investments claiming that the song shares multiple similarities with the 2012 song. It was claimed that the song “duplicates numerous melodic, harmonic and lyrical elements”.

Mars’ song chorus goes “I should have bought you flowers, and held your hand, should have give you all my hours, when I had the chance.”

Meanwhile, Flowers is criticised to have a similar chorus saying “I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, talk to myself for hours, say things you don’t understand.”

It is confirmed by People that the singer won’t be able to dismiss the lawsuit.
