Hollywood star Amanda Seyfried is embracing Mean Girls’ lasting legacy—even beyond her lifetime.

During a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz reflected on the film’s enduring cultural impact, telling Seyfried that she’ll likely be quoted by fans for the rest of her life.

“I hope they quote it on my grave,” Seyfried, 39, responded. “In many ways, it was just a perfect movie.”

The Mamma Mia! actor starred as Karen Smith in the iconic 2004 teen comedy alongside Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Tina Fey.

Nearly two decades later, Mean Girls remains an endlessly quotable cult classic, inspiring a made-for-TV sequel, a Broadway musical, and a 2024 musical film adaptation.

Seyfried reflected on her first-ever film experience, recalling how Mean Girls shaped her early acting career. “I truly think the experience of making it has nothing to do with how well it did,” she said. “For me, it was just, everything was new.”

At just 17 during filming, Seyfried recalled bonding with her co-stars, especially Chabert, with whom she watched movies and listened to Dido in their trailers.

“The relationships were new,” she added. “We all just got along so beautifully. And it was so, like, unadulterated fun.”

Even if the film hadn’t become a cultural phenomenon, Seyfried said her love for the experience wouldn’t have changed.

“It becomes a forever moment,” she said. “A moment locked in time, a timeless film. Like, timeless humour.”

Honouring the impact of Mean Girls, Seyfried added: “I will, any day, honor that movie for what it did for me just as a person.”
