Meghan Markle’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has been mocked by a top royal chef, who called the show “pretentious” and inauthentic.
Richard Corrigan, a renowned chef who runs London Mayfair restaurants Bentley’s and Corrigan’s, did not hold back while sharing his opinion on Meghan’s lifestyle series during an interview with the Daily Mail.
"I don't like the pretence. California is all very Hollywood, it's all very samey – Britain is not like that," he said, criticizing the show’s polished and glamorous aesthetic.
The 61-year-old chef also compared Meghan and Prince Harry to Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, the former king and his American divorcee wife, whose marriage created a royal scandal.
Corrigan further argued that Harry and Meghan have become a burden on King Charles III, saying they should step away from media projects rather than making "cheap TV."
"I don't think anyone likes people doing cheap TV. If you're gonna leave [royal life], buy yourself a nice pad and entertain and enjoy yourself, but don't become a burden," he stated.
He also made it clear that while he would allow Meghan into his restaurant, she wouldn’t get the same red-carpet treatment as Queen Elizabeth II did.
"I cooked for the Queen free of charge, of course. And I'll cook for anyone, but let me just say, some people will have to pay," he said.
"I'd let [Meghan] in the restaurant, for sure, but the Queen had the red carpet rolled out. Would Meghan? I don't think so," he added.
As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show features her "reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” along with her celebrity friends as they roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
