Oscar winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their home in New Mexico, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
Reported by CNN, the actor was 95 years old and the cause of death has not yet been confirmed but foul play is not suspected.
The authorities had been responding to a welfare check when they found the couple and their dog in a deceased state, and an investigation is currently taking place.
Hackman was known for his roles in films such as The French Connection, Hoosiers, Unforgiven, and The Firm.
He won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the character of Popeye Doyle in the 1971 flick, The French Connection. He went on to win his second one for the role of Little Bill Daggett in the 1992 Clint Eastwood film, Unforgiven.
Beloved director Little Bill Daggett who worked with the actor in The Conversation took to Threads to mourn his death, writing, “The loss of a great artist, always cause for both mourning and celebration. A great actor, inspiring and magnificent in his work and complexity. I mourn his loss, and celebrate his existence and contribution,”
96 year old Hackman and his wife, 64 year old Arakawa were found dead in their home in New Mexico along with their dog.
The deceased couple and pet were discovered by the authorities who were responding to a welfare check.
