Kate Hudson is honouring her mother, Goldie Hawn, with a deeply personal new song that reflects on her life and struggles before she became a Hollywood icon.

The 45-year-old actress and singer recently released a deluxe version of her debut album, Glorious, which includes a song titled Right on Time. The track is a tribute to Hawn’s early hardships, painting a vivid picture of her determination before fame found her.

In the lyrics, Hudson recalls a young Hawn, now 79, driving "a hundred miles to Baltimore in a busted Caddy with holes in the floor". The lyrics are based on a real-life story, capturing the lengths Hawn went to in pursuit of her dreams.

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Hudson shared: "She used to wrap her feet because she had all these holes in the bottom of the Cadillac — it was her dad’s car — and so she wrapped her feet while she drove to dance class. When she’d get there, she’d have to thaw them out in warm water because they were frozen."

Hudson revealed that the song took shape unexpectedly during a studio session with producer Linda Perry. Perry had briefly stepped out to take a phone call, and when she returned, she found Hudson experimenting on the piano.

"She came back and she’s like, 'That’s really good — what are you doing?' I said, 'I don’t know, I just started writing it. It feels like my mom,'" Hudson recalled.

Hudson also reflected on the importance of passing down family stories, emphasizing how children should carry on the legacies of their parents.

"Sometimes I think part of what’s happening in our culture is we’re losing sight of the three-generational household. My grandma — my mom’s mom — she lived with us when I grew up, and there’s something about going in your grandma’s room and hearing her stories and understanding your history," she explained.

With Right on Time, Hudson not only honours Hawn’s journey but also highlights the power of storytelling through music—ensuring that her mother’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
