George Clooney, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, is stepping into uncharted territory as he makes his Broadway debut—and he’s not hiding his nerves.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, the 62-year-old actor confessed that the process of memorizing lines for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck has been nothing short of a nightmare.

The Ocean’s Eleven star, who shares seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, with wife Amal Clooney, even joked about his memory issues: "I don’t remember my kids’ names!"

Clooney reminisced about his days filming ER, where he had pages of medical dialogue to deliver daily.

"When I did ER, we’d do 12 pages a day of medical dialogue, and you could just come in and whip it out. I was 30 years old. Now I can’t remember anything."

Good Night, and Good Luck is an adaptation of Clooney’s 2005 film, in which he played journalist Fred Friendly alongside David Strathairn’s portrayal of iconic CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow. The Broadway production will mark his first stage role in nearly 40 years.

Clooney last performed on stage in 1986 when he played a male prostitute drug dealer in the play Vicious.

"These are very famous speeches that Murrow wrote, and I start to do them, and I just sit there going, 'Uhhh… I don't remember.' It’s sheer panic."

Despite the anxiety, Clooney is embracing the challenge.

"I’m terrified. It’s a very different beast. Yeah, I’m scared!"
