Tony Roberts, an American actor known for his work in theatre as well as for starring in several Woody Allen films, has passed away at the age of 85.
His death was officially announced by his daughter, Nicole Burley, to The New York Times.
He had starred in a wide range of Broadway productions such as How Now, Dow Jones in 1967, Sugar in 1972, and Victor/Victoria in 1995 in which he worked alongside Julie Andrews.
He also was a part of Xanadu in 2007 as well as The Royal Family in 2009.
“I’ve never been particularly lucky at card games. I’ve never hit a jackpot. But I have been extremely lucky in life. Unlike many of my pals, who didn’t know what they wanted to become when they grew up, I knew I wanted to be an actor before I got to high school,” the actor wrote in his memoir, Do You Know Me?
In 1966 he appeared in Woody Allen’s comedy, Don’t Drink the Water, both the Broadway and film versions.
Other films from the director that he also made an appearance in include Stardust Memories, Annie Hall, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy, Hannah and Her Sisters as well as Radio Days.
