Tom Holland in a recent interview revealed that he has been sober for over a year.
The actor said that his journey to sobriety began after a "very, very boozy" Christmas last year.
He decided to do dry January, but he found that he couldn't stop thinking about alcohol.
"I felt like I couldn't be social," Holland said.
"I felt like I couldn't go to the pub and have a lime soda. I couldn't go out for dinner. I was really, really struggling."
This realization prompted Holland to extend his no-drinking rule for another month. However, he still found it difficult to resist England's drinking culture.
"I just sort of said to myself, like, Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?"
Shaken, Holland set himself a target of going six months without drinking. He felt he had turned a corner when he celebrated his 27th birthday on 1 June. By that time, he said, he was "the happiest I've ever been in my life."
Holland also said that getting sober has had a positive impact on his acting.
He is now more present and focused on the set, and he is able to bring a deeper level of emotion to his performances.
"I'm a better actor now that I'm sober," he said.
"I'm so proud of my mom. She's been sober for over a year, and she's doing amazing."
