DC Studios co-head James Gunn stepped in at San Diego Comic-Con to reveal the second season of Peacemaker, and John Cena’s hero has been hauled to a parallel universe in the trailer.
On late Saturday, the DC Studios team was spotted in Hall H, where Marvel Studios formerly gathered.
However, the panel’s moderator Joshua Horowitz noted: “James, this is the first time you’ve been in front of a crowd since Superman,” making the audience erupt in cheer.
The panel commenced with the highly anticipated new trailer for the second season, where Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, had fun in a new parallel dimension he had discovered.
The dimension is like the existing one, but even better, and a place where he can hook up with Jennifer Holland’s Harcourt. However, at the same time, in the real world, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. (from Superman) is set to close the portal in his face-off with Peacemaker.
“No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us,” said Leota to Chris.
Addressing Season 2’s Smith, the director Gunn said he likes TV shows where characters don’t return every season with the exact same personalities.
“I want to see growth. I want to see change and sometimes regression,” Gunn said. “And Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren’t accepting him as a hero.”
