Glam up, Oscars 2021 ditch virtual event to host a traditional ceremony

The Academy Awards are ditching a virtual event, despite a pandemic, and planning for a fully-fledged traditional in-person ceremony.

The 2021 Oscars will not be held virtually, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed on Tuesday, and will instead be an in-person ceremony.

“The Oscars in-person telecast will happen,” a rep for the Academy and ABC, which airs the show, said.

The award show, which was originally scheduled for February 28, 2021, has been moved to April 25, 2021, due to the coronavirus threat.

For the first time ever, the show has amended its rules, including streaming-only films.

The Academy will now have to take special measures to host such a big ceremony, which also includes deciding upon the number of people who will be allowed inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
