Madonna may still be the Queen of Pop, but even music royalty can’t outrun the effects of time.
The 67-year-old superstar has revealed she is battling a painful knee problem after decades of performing in sky-high heels, dancing on stage and pushing her body to the limit.
Speaking candidly to Interview magazine, Madonna admitted she now has “a bad knee” and no cartilage left in the joint after years of intense physical activity.
“I have no cartilage in it, thanks to dancing for so long in high heels and running on pavement and doing Ashtanga yoga,” she explained.
The Vogue singer said the injury has forced her to rethink her fitness routine.
Until recently, the songstress was still throwing herself into demanding workouts, including trampoline sessions and dance cardio.
“Up until a year ago, I was jumping on trampolines and doing dance cardio and doing a lot of what a doctor would call loading on my joints. Can’t do that anymore,” she admitted.
But slowing down is not in Madonna’s nature.
While she has had to ditch some of her more punishing workouts, she still keeps active with Peloton cycling, Versa Climber sessions, high-intensity circuit training, outdoor bike rides and, of course, dancing.
Away from the gym, the Popular hitmaker also opened up about her restless lifestyle.
Currently based in London, the pop icon compared herself to a “gypsy”, explaining that she rarely stays in one place for more than three years.
After spending time in New York following the COVID pandemic, she relocated to the UK capital and says constantly changing her surroundings helps keep life exciting.
Despite her long history with the Big Apple, Live To Tell singer admitted she is not rushing back anytime soon, describing New York as “kind of boring right now.”
