David Bowie’s daughter Alexandria ‘Lexi,’ has taken to social media to reveal how she feels about getting tied with her father’s name.
The legendary singer’s second born took to her Instagram stories to share how being compared or reminded of her father’s success feels belittling to her.
Against a black background she began, “It’s a very weird feeling when people try to comfort me and say, ‘don’t forget who you are, you’re David Bowie’s daughter.’ I know it’s said with good intentions, and I hear it quite often, but it always lands strangely with me.”
Lexi added, “I’d rather be reminded of who I am than who I’m related to. Who I am is not based on him. And if you really sit with that sentence for a second, even if it comes from a good place, it can feel like it minimizes me as an entire individual.”
The 25-year-old went on to explain that it felt like she was being reminded of someone else before being reminded of her own identity, and that she had been wanting to say this for a while.
Lexi has previously been candid about her struggle with depression, substance abuse and an eating disorder and was also sent to a boarding school which prevented her from being with David when he passed.
