Donnie Wahlberg has opened up about the emotional way he shared the news of Boston Blue being renewed for a second season, revealing he personally called each of his co-stars to deliver the update.

Speaking at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Hollywood, the actor and executive producer said he felt it was important to tell the cast himself.

According to Wahlberg, the moment quickly turned heartfelt, with every cast member becoming emotional during the calls.

“I had the pleasure of calling all my castmates,” he shared, adding that each conversation led to tears — including his own.

As per People, the emotional reaction extended beyond the cast, as Wahlberg said he later shared the moment with his wife, Jenny McCarthy, with the couple also getting teary while celebrating the news.

Boston Blue, a police procedural drama and spin-off of Blue Bloods, follows Wahlberg’s character as he transitions to the Boston Police Department.

Moreover, the series premiered in 2025 and quickly gained traction, leading to an early renewal for a second season.

Wahlberg explained that, as an executive producer, he specifically requested to be the one to share the announcement, a decision supported by the production team.
