James McAvoy reflects on late-stage fatherhood, career transition

Scottish actor, James McAvoy opened up about his experience of early parenting as he's in his forties.

The father of two sons had one in 2010, with his ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff and second with wife, Lisa Liberati.

The Speak No Evil star got candid about fatherhood difference as he has two kids sharing a gap of 12 years.

In a conversation with Guardian, he marked, "Having a kid at 42 is definitely easier in some ways. I worry less. I’m a bit more philosophical.”

However, he went on to note that "it’s also harder, because you’re just older and tireder."

The 46-year-old actor in a major career transition will mark his directing debut with California Schemin'.

The musical biographical premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 6 September 2025.

Plot of the film revolves around two Scottish rappers who ditch their origin cultivating an American persona to build career.

He confessed that doing the job at this stage has landed him in first-timer stress as he had to wake up at 2.30 a.m. with the film buzzing in his head.

"That’s the time that you work your socks off, burn the midnight oil, run the extra mile – and usually when you’re doing that, you’re in your 20s," he added.

Notably, it is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom by StudioCanal on 10 April, 2026.
