Beatles legend McCartney, 83, announces 'Boys of Dungeon Lane'

The Beatles icon, Paul McCartney is returning to the place where it started.

On Thursday, the veteran singer announced that he would release his next album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, May 29.

The lead single Days We Left Behind is out now. The studious album is his first solo over five years.

The compilation marks the 83-year-old star looking back into his childhood in Liverpool, his parents and the quiet years with band-mates John Lennon and George Harrison before Beatlemania.

The introductory song gets the atmosphere going, based on the locales and areas he grew up in, such as Dungeon Lane in Speke.

In a statement, McCartney said "This is very much a memory song for me," the title of the album is based on a line from this song.

He recalled, "I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind. It's just a lot of memories of Liverpool."

The recording started 5 years ago following a meeting with producer Andrew Watt and was interspersed with McCartney's touring dates.

The long-player cuts across rock, harmony-based songs and barebacked acoustic interludes, with McCartney playing much of the instruments himself.

The Boys of Dungeon Lane is the sequel to McCartney III released in 2020.
