Savannah Guthrie is speaking out since her mother Nancy disappeared almost two months ago and struggling with the question of whether or not her fame contributed.
The 54-year-old co-anchor, was crying in an emotional interview with Hoda Kotb which aired on Thursday on Today.
The voice of the famous journalist broke as she discussed about her lost mother directly.
She recalled her brother, who had told her that the reason their mother had been kidnapped was a ransom.
"I think my brother saw very clearly right away what this was," the American broadcaster recalled.
"He said, 'I think she's been kidnapped for ransom.' I said, 'Do you think because of me?' He said, 'I'm sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.'"
"To think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me? Can I just say, I'm so sorry, Mommy," she expressed deep guilt.
The interview that is still underway on Friday will be the first time Guthrie speaks publicly since her 84-year-old mother vanished out of her Tucson house on January 31.
The Today colleagues and fans were heart broken at the self-blame of Guthrie, "I'm so sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids. If it is me, I'm so sorry."
Craig Melvin, who had conducted the interview, said that it was the worst part after the interview aired.
The hunt on Nancy goes into the eighth week without any arrest, Guthrie has not announced that she is coming back to the anchor desk.
