Halle Bailey has recently reflected on being a Black actress in her upcoming movie, You, Me & Tuscany.
The singer-actress discussed the importance of diversity in romantic comedies with producer Will Packer.
Speaking on SiriusXM Sway in the Morning LA Studio Session, Halle noted that she wanted to be a part of projects where she saw herself.
“It’s so important for us to see ourselves especially as beautiful Black people. Like, we need to know that I can do that. I can be there. I can pursue this and I’m welcome here and I’m here to stay,” explained the 25-year-old.
Last Holiday actress shared that it was “a part of maybe it started from The Little Mermaid where it’s like this spark of like, ‘Okay, even if you necessarily don’t think I’m supposed to be in this position or this role, like, I am supposed to be here and I’m going to show you’”.
“And we are important and I don’t know, it like heals something in the little girl in me,” continued the Let It Shine actress.
Halle pointed out that it’s a “fun to watch us experience love and joy and be happy and not suffering and just like fun”.
“So that’s why I was grateful to be a part of it and it’s definitely a big part of what I choose to do now, especially because I realise the impact that it has on us, especially children. Like, it’s really cool,” added the actress.
Meanwhile, Halle, who stars alongside Regé-Jean Page, in You, Me & Tuscany will release in theatres on April 10.
