Chappell Roan is under scrutiny as Rio de Janeiro’s mayor publicly addressed the ongoing controversy.
The backlash stems from an incident before the songstress 2026 Lollapalooza Brazil performance in São Paulo, where the singer’s security guard reportedly acted rudely toward the soccer star Jorginho’s step-daughter.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Eduardo Cavaliere, the head of the city, addressed the situation, writing, “I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city – this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt that Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would do that!”
He shared the post alongside a screenshot of Jorginho’s statement.
The mayor then went on to assure that Jorginho’s daughter would be given special recognition at the upcoming Todo Mundo no Rio, a series of international mega shows.
Meanwhile, the past performers include Madonna and Lady Gaga. However, Shakira is set to headline this year.
Moreover, the mayor added, “By the way, @FrelloJorginho your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May!”
Notably, Todo Mundo no Rio, a free concert on Copacabana Beach, has drawn massive audiences since its launch in 2024.
Interestingly, Madonna’s performance attracted 1.6 million fans, while Gaga’s show the following year brought in 2.5 million attendees.
