Amanda Peet, star of Friends & Neighbors and Fatal Attraction, revealed her breast cancer journey as her parents were in hospice.

In a recent piece, the actress opened up about her experience saying that her breasts had always been “dense and busy,” so she went for regular checkups.

She revealed her experience in a heartfelt New Yorker essay, explaining, a routine scan before Labor Day led to a biopsy, and her doctor delivered preliminary results.

While the tumor appeared small, further tests were needed to determine its aggressiveness. “It’s like dogs,” her doctor said, comparing cancer types from “poodles” to “pit bulls.”

She explained that handling her own health along with family responsibilities was challenging, and she kept her diagnosis from her mother, who was in advanced Parkinson’s.

In the following days, her father’s health worsed and he died before she could be there with him.

It was later confirmed her cancer could be treated with surgery and radiation. She and her husband shared the diagnosis with their children.

Moreover, the star also recounted spending precious final moments with her mother. “Time was running out, and, besides, I had already told her everything,” she wrote.

However, her planned lumpectomy was postponed after a radiologist found a lump the MRI had not detected, requiring an MRI guided biopsy.
