Sam Kieth, a legendary comic book artist, has died at 63.

Based on latest reports, he passed away on March 15 after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, a degenerative disease described as a mix of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

He contributed to famous titles like Wolverine, The Hulk, and Batman, and also created his own stories such as Epicurus the Sage and Zero Girl.

He rose to fame from the 1993 Image Comics series The Maxx. The series explored identity, dreams, and reality, lightly disguised as a superhero story.

The Maxx was adapted into an animated show for MTV’s Liquid Television and inspired collectible toys.

Mark Seifert of Bleeding Cool said, “Sam Kieth was one of the most unique and creative stylists of his generation of comic book artists. Reading his work… was constantly a revelation. I’ll always remember his work as a vital part of that era and beyond.”

Meanwhile, he started as a teenage creator with Max the Hare and later worked on titles such as Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters, Judge Dredd, and 30 Days of Night.

The Sandman co-creator Sam Kieth is by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Kieth, after 43 years of marriage.
