Gwyneth Paltrow has addressed the ongoing “nepo baby” debate.
The 53-year-old actress appeared at the Muse Awards in New York City on Friday, March 20, where she talked about her place in the industry.
Speaking to People at the event, she remarked, “I was extraordinarily lucky to be given opportunities early on, probably partly because I’m one of the original nepo babies,” adding, “But I would be lying if I said that that made my path clear.”
The Oscar winner, daughter of Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow, reflected on the challenges she faced despite her background.
She continued, “There were many moments when the industry made it very plain that women are expected to stay in their lane and to be graceful and quiet and above all to be one thing. And I’ve never been very good at being one thing,” referencing her decision to branch out with her lifestyle brand goop.
However, this came shortly after she expressed gratitude to her mother, Danner, saying she showed her how to work hard, take risks onstage, and stay graceful even when things were hard.
Interestingly, she was among the honorees of the evening, alongside notable figures including Jamie Brewer, Patricia Cardoso, Isabelle Harrison, Audra McDonald, Will Swenson, and Joy-Ann Reid.
Notably, former New York state representative Rafael Espinal was also present at the ceremony.
