Chris Lake has revealed that his 90-year-old grandfather finally “gets” what he does, all thanks to remixing Taylor Swift’s hit single Opalite.
The 43-year-old dance music producer, who’s been ruling club charts for years, admitted that not everyone in his life has always understood the world of electronic music.
But working on Swift’s 2025 Life of a Showgirl track changed that.
“It's given me the ability to have a conversation with people that very often don’t understand what I do,” he told Billboard.
“Everyone knows about Taylor Swift. My 90-year-old grandfather knows who she is.”
The remix has already racked up an impressive 3.4 million global streams, but Chris insists the project wasn’t about the money.
“I couldn’t give a f–k about that,” he said. “If I hadn’t made something that I felt worked well, I wouldn’t have done it.”
Chris also opened up about the creative challenge behind the remix, explaining how he had to blend his signature minor chords with the uplifting major chords of the Grammy winner’s vocals.
Even the perfectionist producer admits he had to remix his remix.
After two days in the studio, a friend told him: “You’ve overcooked this.” Chris laughed: “It was really inconvenient, but he’s absolutely right.”
The remix hasn’t just impressed fans but it’s left old relatives and long-lost acquaintances stunned too.
