Demi Lovato has opened up about her emotional journey and how she discovered self-love.

The 31-year-old star revealed that learning to cook has become a major milestone in her recovery from an eating disorder.

The pop superstar made the heartfelt admission during a candid appearance at New York’s 92nd Street Y, where she spoke alongside Eli Rallo about her upcoming cookbook, One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food, set to hit shelves on March 31.

The book reflects Demi’s evolving relationship with food after years battling bulimia as it's packed with more than 80 comforting dishes.

In a touching moment, the Heart Attack singer recalled how stepping into the kitchen with friends five years into her recovery marked a turning point.

What once triggered anxiety, even walking into a grocery store, has now become a source of joy.

“It’s celebratory and fun,” she shared.

“I used to go into grocery stores and feel completely overwhelmed… now I’m shopping, cooking, and actually enjoying it. That’s a huge win for me.”

The songstress said one of her first proud moments came while whipping up a spaghetti squash salad with friends, describing it as the instant she realised cooking could be “really fun”.

Let It Go hitmaker hopes her cookbook will inspire others who feel intimidated by food or cooking, especially those with a history of disordered eating.
