Gemma Atkinson has spoken out after revealing she was “attacked” by a grieving fan following her Mother’s Day social media post.
The 41-year-old shared that she received a critical message from a woman who had lost her mother, after Atkinson posted about enjoying the occasion and celebrating her own parent.
Speaking on her Lost In Translation podcast, she explained that the message quickly turned personal, with the fan expressing frustration over the day and directing it toward her.
Atkinson acknowledged the pain associated with such occasions but defended her right to celebrate.
According to Daily Mail, she pointed out that she, too, has experienced loss, having lost her father at a young age, yet does not direct anger toward others marking similar days.
“I understand people grieve differently,” she said, emphasizing that while empathy is important, individuals should not be targeted for expressing joy.
She added that it is “not my fault” if others are grieving, urging people to process their emotions without attacking others online.
Moreover, the incident has sparked debate on social media, with some supporting Atkinson’s stance on personal boundaries, while others argued public figures should be more mindful when posting about sensitive occasions.
