Timothée Chalamet’s condemnation over his remarks about ballet and opera has made its way to the 2026 Academy Awards.
The Marty Supreme actor became the target of some lighthearted jabs by the host of the ceremony Conan O’Brien.
However, the more surprising moment when the Oscar-nominated film Sinners’ family took the stage to perform a rendition of the song I Lied To You.
For the rendition, the famed ballerina Misty Copeland and the country singer Shaboozey joined Miles Canton and Raphael Saadiq to bring the track to life at the Dolby Theatre.
The performance concluded with the celebrated ballerina’s powerful ballet moves taking center stage, and Chalamet surprisingly joining the standing ovation she received at the end.
Meanwhile Copeland’s surprise appearance comes a week after she reacted to the Dune actor’s comments about the two communities, which has received a ton of backlash ever since it went viral.
"First I have to say that it's very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting Marty Supreme with respect to my art form, I think that it's important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that's not 'popular' and a part of pop culture as movies are,” the 43-year-old had stated.
“But that doesn't mean it doesn't have enduring relevance in culture," Copeland had added, and it appears that the two art forms have now become more relevant than ever in light of the recent controversy.
Notably, Chalamet had called ballet and opera two art forms that no one cares about, and seemed to recognise in the moment that his comments would be seen as disparaging.
