Jack Johnson is dedicating a tribute to his long-term friend Tamayo Perry, who lost his life after a tragic shark attack in June 2024.

The new tour by the 50-year-old singer, titled SURFILMUSIC, debuted at SXSW on Friday.

The new documentary is dedicated to the loving memory of the beloved Hawaii surfer and lifeguard.

In the movie, Johnson cogitates about the loss of Perry, who was assaulted during his surfing lesson in Goat Island.

"When I first heard the news, you start trying to remember the last time you hung out," he says.

He recounted, "The thing with Tamayo is every time you'd be together, he'd give you a big hug and say he loved you and he was so present through his whole life."

Johnson also writes that their friend group taught him to be a better friend through presence in life.

For the unversed, Perry was featured in Thicker Than Water (2000) by Johnson, other Hollywood films included Blue Crush and Pirates of the Caribbean.

At the time of his death in June 2024, Johnson took to his Instagram and marked that he had lost one of his best friends

The film is a combination of some of the rare surf shots and personal collections that show how the upbringing of Hawaii influenced the music career of Johnson.
