A new documentary exploring the life and legacy of Rod Serling, the visionary creator behind the iconic anthology series The Twilight Zone, is set to premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival, and it may not have happened without the support of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Director Jonah Tulis revealed that the upcoming documentary, titled Serling, originated through DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way Productions.

According to Tulis, the Oscar-winning actor and his team were instrumental in bringing the project to life because of their long-standing admiration for Serling’s work.

The documentary will explore Serling’s career and influence on television, drawing on rare archival footage, previously unheard recordings, and reenactments to tell the story largely in the late writer’s own words.

As per People, the film highlights Serling’s role not only as a pioneering storyteller but also as a writer who used science fiction as a vehicle to address social and political issues during an era of strict television censorship.

Moreover, Serling, who died in 1975 at the age of 50, became famous for creating The Twilight Zone, the groundbreaking series that aired from 1959 to 1964.

The show blended science fiction and psychological drama to examine themes such as war, morality, technology, and human nature.

Tulis worked closely with Serling’s daughters, Anne and Jodi, who supported the project and helped provide access to personal archives and family memories.
