Maya Rudolph takes on dream role with first Broadway performance.
The Bridesmaid actress take on the role which was originated by the play’s writer Cole Escole.
The actress will star in Oh, Mary! For an 8-week engagement through June 20.
"Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph said in a statement. "Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised."
The Loot star said that playing the character is an honour especially after seeing so many iconic actress taking the role before her.
She joins an impressive lineage of Marys, which have included Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin, and Hannah Solow.
She continued, "So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime, as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman, is a real dream come true."
The show is directed by Sam Pinkleton and follows a fictionalized, drunkard Mary Todd Lincoln in the lead-up to her husband President Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
Oh Mary! won two awards at the 78th annual Tony in 2025 including Best Director of a Play and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.
Oh, Mary will began its limited eight-week engagement form April 28.
