Comedian Chelsea Handler has revealed her latest romance began with a bold move at a casino table, when she asked a total stranger for $1,000 during a late-night blackjack session in Las Vegas.
The 51-year-old funnyman shared the cheeky story in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
She admitted that the chance encounter has since blossomed into a whirlwind, globe-trotting relationship.
Chelsea explained the moment happened while she was performing during her residency at The Chelsea theatre, inside the glitzy The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
“I picked up a gambling habit,” she joked, revealing that friends often join her at the tables after her shows.
But on one unlucky night, she needed a quick boost.
“I had to ask this guy sitting at a blackjack table who was wearing a cowboy hat,” she recalled.
“He had thousands of dollars in chips. I said, ‘Hey buddy, can I borrow $1,000? I’m gonna start winning right away.’”
To her surprise, the mystery man didn’t hesitate.
“He was like, ‘Yeah, absolutely!’ So he gave me $1,000.”
This Means War star said she paid him back later that same night after her luck turned around, even briefly handing over an extra grand as “interest”, before cheekily reclaiming it.
She still won’t reveal his identity, only referring to him as her mysterious “Cowboy”.
It's worth notung that the story didn’t end at the casino.
The next day, the pair reconnected after a friend passed along Chelsea’s number.
Before long, the comic invited him on an extraordinary adventure and that is to Antarctica.
“He bought a ticket and met me there,” she laughed.
Now, the unlikely romance is still going strong.
“It’s hot,” she said.
“A woman like me needs a big move like that.”
The star continues her Vegas residency and is preparing for a new US tour while also developing a series with Hulu.
