Jack White’s latest interview, which has been published on International Women’s Day, contained an unexpected, thinly-veiled dig at Taylor Swift which has upset fans.

The musician who has recently put out a book, Jack White: Collected Lyrics & Selected Writing Volume 1, was asked amid the interview if his songs are purely autobiographical in nature.

In response, he stated, “Not too much. Now it’s become very popular in the Taylor Swift way of pop singers writing about all of their publicly aired break-ups, which I don’t find interesting at all. I think it’s a little bit boring for me to write about myself.”

White added, “If it’s something really painful, I’m not going to put this important, painful thing that I went through out there for some idiot on the internet to stomp all over.”

The Seven Nation Army singer explained that he uses his experience and morphs it into somebody else’s character, which helps him learn about himself.

White’s remark, as well as the day of the piece being published gained traction on social media.

One netizen wrote on X, “International woman’s day and this loser decided to say this stupid crap. EVERY ARTIST WRITES ABOUT THEIR LIVE… Jack White included.”

Another added, “Kudos to Taylor, as an entire style of writing used by MANY songwriters is attributed to her. Nice touch dropping this article on Intl Women’s Day There’s no need to drag others down to lift yourself up. But there is always someone (like this man) who chooses to go low.”
