Elijah Wood has seemingly hinted about his potential return as Frodo in the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The Back to the Future Part II star also announced that he wouldn't want anyone else to walk in Frodo's shoes as long as he is "alive and able" to play the role.
In an interview with The Times UK, the Green Street actor acknowledged co-star Ian McKellen details about the forthcoming movie to fans at a convention last years.
"It hasn’t been officially announced, but at a convention last August, Ian sort of let the cat out of the bag. So there is a good chance," he told the outlet.
When asked if he will reprise his iconic role in the new project, the SAG Awards winner, neither confirmed nor denied instead played coy about comeback.
He said, "I'm not able to officially say anything until it’s announced, but I will say I'm thrilled with the prospect of another film."
Wood further admitted that discussions about the new films set in the "Middle-earth" can feel a bit nerve wrecking, noting how everyone tends to be protective of the beloved world and want any new project to maintain its integrity.
He went on to tease what little he knows about the new movie, saying, "This story is fun, thrilling. There is a genuine feeling of getting the band back together."
Agreeing with McKellen stating that he wouldn't want anyone playing Gandalf while he's still alive to do it himself, Wood said, "I totally get that. I certainly wouldn’t want anybody else to play Frodo either as long as I’m alive and able."
Two years ago, original Lord of the Rings helmer Peter Jackson announced he was producing a new live-action instalment in iconic franchise with Andy Serkis, who also plays Gollum, set to direct and star.
Originally slated for a 2026 release, the film is now expected to premiere in December 2027.
