SZA warns AI is hitting black artists hardest: 'I’m at War'

SZA has slammed AI in music, claiming she’s “at war” with a technology that’s hitting Black artists the hardest.

The 36-year-old singer didn’t hold back in an interview with i-D magazine, saying she’s “really offended” by the rise of AI-generated tracks.

“Why am I hearing AI covers of Olivia Dean, when Olivia Dean just came the f*** out? She can’t even collect the streams,” she fumed.

She criticised the way AI churns out “weird, stereotypical struggle music” and insisted it can never replicate the human depth of her own experiences.

“I’m not up against the pop girls. I’m not up against the R and B girls. I’m up against anti-intellectualism and doing things easy,” she said.

SZA also admitted society itself worries her.

She said that she was feeling a surge of identity and frustration, describing herself as “aggressively Black” amid the rise of AI in music.

The songstress warned that society feels fractured and fragmented, with communities stripped of the solidarity and empowerment needed to stand together.

Last summer, Snooze singer took to Instagram to blast AI’s environmental cost, urging fans to “please Google how much energy and pollution it takes to run AI.”

She warned: “AI doesn’t give a f*** if you live or die. Black and Brown communities will pay the brunt of it every time.”
