Gina Gershon is looking back at her storied Hollywood career with unfiltered honesty, revealing behind-the-scenes challenges from her days on Showgirls and an early encounter with music icon Prince.
The 60-year-old actress discussed these moments while promoting her memoir AlphaPussy, which chronicles her journey in the entertainment world.
Gershon told Page Six that working with Showgirls director Paul Verhoeven in the 1995 erotic drama was fraught with tension.
Moreover, she recounted a particularly awkward moment when Verhoeven suggested she film a graphic nude shot that wasn’t in her contract.
As per the outlet, Gershon diplomatically pushed back and creatively defused the idea, ultimately keeping the scene within her comfort level.
Long before Showgirls, a young Gershon had a potential breakout moment with Prince, who was developing a film project.
However, she reportedly said she declined the role after an uncomfortable meeting in which the singer insisted on calling her “Ghee-na,” a nickname she felt would define her career.
Despite the missed opportunity, she said trusting her instincts was ultimately empowering.
Furthermore, her memoir also delves into early life experiences, including encounters with adult-industry culture in her youth, and celebrates supportive moments with stars like Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone, who offered guidance at key points in her career.
