Stella McCartney, the British fashion designer and daughter of Paul and Linda McCartney, has shared candid reflections on how the negative reactions to her mother’s role in the band Wings affected the family.

In the new Prime Video documentary Paul McCartney: Man on the Run, Stella describes the public criticism Linda endured as something that “breaks my heart,” acknowledging the emotional toll it took even though her mother appeared resilient at the time.

According to People, Linda McCartney, a photographer by trade and a self-taught musician, joined her husband Paul in Wings after the breakup of The Beatles in the early 1970s.

While she contributed keyboards and harmonies, critics were often unkind, isolating her vocals and mocking her musical abilities, a response that Stella says caused real pain despite Linda’s brave front.

“I know that there was pain there. I knew she hurt,” she says in the documentary.

Moreover, the film, directed by Morgan Neville, explores Paul McCartney’s life and career after The Beatles, featuring interviews with family members, former bandmates and music legends.

As per the outlet, it also highlights the couple’s strong personal bond; Paul himself remembers people questioning why he included Linda in the band, even as he defended her unique contributions to their sound.

It is pertinent to mention that Linda McCartney died in 1998 at the age of 56, but her legacy, both as a musician and a creative force, continues to be re-examined through the documentary’s lens.
