Dean Lewis has publicly addressed a growing backlash after several women took to TikTok with claims that his private communications over the past decade made them uncomfortable.
The 38-year-old singer, known for hits like Waves and Be Alright, issued an Instagram apology acknowledging that his conduct was “embarrassing,” insensitive and poorly judged, while emphasizing that all encounters were between consenting adults and not illegal.
According to Daily Mail, the backlash intensified online in late 2025 as clips and screenshots of messages and interactions circulated on TikTok, prompting public criticism and debate about professional boundaries between artists and fans.
Lewis said he “understands why people are angry and disappointed” and expressed regret to those who felt hurt by his behavior. He also announced plans to seek “intense therapy” and implement new personal boundaries moving forward.
Amid the controversy, Lewis made the decision to withdraw his nominations from both the ARIA Awards and TikTok Awards for 2025, steps confirmed by music industry sources.
Additionally, in early 2026 it was reported that he and Universal Music Australia have parted ways, with the singer now pursuing his career independently.
