James Gunn has set the record straight: he’s not fast-tracking The Batman – Part III.
Rumours had swirled that DC Studios, led by Gunn and Peter Safran, were rushing a third Robert Pattinson-led Batman movie to beat the release of The Brave and The Bold.
The 59-year-old filmmaker shut down the chatter on Threads, saying: “I don’t know what that is but I’m not fast tracking anything other than our scripts currently getting ready to go into production.”
When told that writer Daniel RPK had been informed the trilogy was being rushed, he added: “That’s incorrect. Well I mean I don’t know if it’s incorrect that DPK was told that, but the information is incorrect.”
The Batman – Part II, now in pre-production with Matt Reeves, will see Pattinson return as the Dark Knight.
Colin Farrell, reprising his role as The Penguin, teased a “deeper” and “scarier” story than the 2022 original, though he admitted his part is smaller.
“But I’m OK with that … I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. It’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it,” Farrell told The Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, DC fans have another treat: The Brave and The Bold, penned by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, The Flash).
Notably, it will introduce Damian Wayne, a murderous teen raised by assassins and Bruce’s son he never knew about.
Gunn described Damian as “a little son of a b****” and promised “a very strange father-and-son story.”
DC Studios are taking their time, giving fans reassurance that Gotham’s next adventures won’t be rushed, leaving plenty of suspense, thrills, and brooding heroics in store.
