Versatile actor and director, Tom Noonan passes away at 74

Tom Noonan, the American actor and director has passed away at the age of 74. However, the cause of death has not been disclosed yet.

The veteran star was well known for being the giant terrifying character in the cinematic history with developing a unique style as an actor of disturbing outsiders.

His long-time partner and co-star Karen Sillas and filmmaker Fred Dekker confirmed his death on February 14.

Notably, his career that included film, television as well as theatre spanned more than five decades.

A successful stage career that saw him play in the original off-Broadway of Buried Child, by Sam Shepard.

Later, the Connecticut born shifted to film where he acted in Heaven's Gate and subsequently, and gave his breakthrough performance in Manhunter.

The thriller, directed by Michael Mann and him playing a serial killer named Francis Dollarhyde, in the first version of Red Dragon, is still held in high regards.

He had evolved into cult status as The Monster Squad in Frankenstein, and in the second instalment of RoboCop, and has since featured in Heat, 12 Monkeys and The Pledge.

He appeared on television on The X-files and The Blacklist. Additionally, Noonan wrote, directed, and starred in What Happened Was that won Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 1994.

Colleagues would off-screen remember him as a gentleman, on screen, he created commanding villains.
