Jesse Jackson, who was known for being a civil rights activist, passed away after an extended health battle on February 17, 2026.

The news of his death was confirmed in an announcement, declaring the passing of “Civil Rights leader and founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Honorable Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr.”

According to the update, the Saturday Night Live host passed away “peacefully on Tuesday morning” while “his family” was around him.

Although his cause of death remains unknown, it was reported that the activist breathed his last after fighting a long battle with an illness.

The former Shadow US Senator continued to proceed on his mission, advocating for civil rights and ending up in jail twice.

He remained a notable figure on camera, hosting political talk show Both Sides With Jesse Jackson on CNN, Saturday Night Live and his talk show.

The star would usually make appearance in different projects, portraying himself. This includes his association with A Different World on episode "Citizen Wayne."

Mostly notable, Jesse was part of the Will.i.am music video It’s a New Day.

He also ran for president twice. The voice artist announced his campaign for president of the United States for the 1984 term.
