Rapper Wiz Khalifa has shared the heartbreaking news that his father has died suddenly at the age of 63.
The 38-year-old star, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, revealed on X that his dad, Laurence W. Thomaz, “decided not to wake up”, describing his passing as peaceful and on his “own time”.
In an emotional post, Wiz wrote: “Today my father decided not to wake up. I will always love him, miss him and be grateful for the things he taught me.
He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W. Thomaz… LT Forever.”
The See You Again hitmaker said their final conversation will stay with him forever.
“The last conversation I had with my dad was him telling me how proud of me he was for the movie I was in and I promised him I would do more.”
He later thanked fans for their outpouring of love, admitting their kind words are helping him through the “tough time”.
Laurence was said to have played a huge role in launching his son’s career, even opening a recording studio in Pittsburgh where a young Wiz would spend hours honing his craft.
Away from music, Wiz is a devoted dad to his 12-year-old son, Sebastian, whom he shares with model Amber Rose.
He has previously said fatherhood is his greatest gift and now, he’s mourning the man who first believed in him.
