In 2018, a car crash Joe DiMeo severely burned his body with 80 per cent including his face.
Today, the 27-year-old is a medical pioneer since he has undergone a historic face and double hand transplant.
After getting back on his feet, DiMeo regained his independence and married his wife, Jessica.
As of now, he has placed his name as an author on his list of accomplishments.
In his new book, Eighty Percent Gone, One Hundred Percent Strong: Rebuilt with Resilience, DiMeo detailed how often things are censored on social media.
"A lot of stuff I can't say online. It'll get flagged or the photos get taken down, and then there goes a lot of my story," he stated.
Besides, he remarked that the written word enabled him to circumvent the two-edged sword of TikTok rules.
The memoir analysed his terrible coma nightmares and a boyhood that created his trademark grit.
Moreover, he admitted that he was not used to being vulnerable and had to overcome his ego.
This happened with the help of a ghostwriter to "get the feelings and say, 'Don't delete that. Leave it there.'"
DiMeo made others more resilient by stressing the strength of radical acceptance when tragedy strikes.
He humorously said, "Growing up, I used to ditch writing class," adding, "Now I can say I'm an author, which is pretty cool."
