Britney Spears publicly addressed lingering pain tied to her family relationships in a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, declaring she feels “incredibly lucky to even be alive” after the way relatives treated her in the past.
In the extended caption, the Toxic singer reflected on loneliness, connection and long-standing emotional wounds that she says still affect her today.
Accompanying the message was a symbolic image of an adult hand holding a baby’s, as Spears wrote that while people often yearn for connection, some family members who claimed to help her instead left her feeling isolated and “unbelievably left out.”
According to Page Six, she added that although “we can forgive as people, we don’t ever forget,” and admitted she is now “scared of them.”
Spears also wrote that despite her gratitude for life, she believes those relatives will “never take responsibility for what they did,” and mused on how “God works in mysterious ways.”
Moreover, she punctuated her candid reflections with lighter personal notes about everyday moments like making cheesecake and recovering from minor injuries.
