Catherine Zeta-Jones has shared fresh insight into why she hasn’t embraced the Hollywood networking scene, and how that choice has influenced her life and career.
The 56-year-old Oscar winner tells People that she and husband Michael Douglas have made their home near New York City for years, a decision that means she “hasn’t been in L.A. schmoozing” with other Hollywood figures.
Zeta-Jones, known for her versatile roles in films like Traffic and Chicago, said she isn’t sure whether avoiding the Los Angeles social circuit has had a negative impact on her career.
She admitted it’s “interesting whether it’s been detrimental,” because she hasn’t spent much time in the usual Hollywood networking circles.
Instead of rubbing shoulders with industry socialites, the Wednesday star says her social life mainly revolves around businesspeople, art collectors and friends from the New York area, a contrast to what she might encounter in Los Angeles.
Moreover, Zeta-Jones and Douglas, married since 2000, live about 40 minutes from Manhattan and share two children, son Dylan and daughter Carys.
The actress remains active professionally, with roles in upcoming projects including The Gallerist, reprising Morticia Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday, and a lead role in the Prime Video series Kill Jackie.
