Jesy Nelson has spoken candidly about the “intense” day-to-day challenges she faces as the mother of twin girls diagnosed with a rare and serious genetic condition, SMA Type 1.
In a recent interview, the former Little Mix singer described the past months as “the most heartbreaking time” of her life, explaining how the diagnosis affected not only her emotional wellbeing but also her engagement to musician Zion Foster.
The twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were born prematurely in May 2025, and their condition, which causes progressive muscle weakness and may limit mobility and life expectancy, was confirmed after persistent concerns about their development.
According to Daily Mail, Nelson has said the family’s focus has shifted entirely to giving the girls the best life possible, calling the experience “traumatic” and deeply affecting the dynamics of her relationship with Foster, with whom she is now co-parenting.
Moreover, Nelson, who is also starring in an upcoming Prime Video docuseries Life After Little Mix, has used her platform to highlight the importance of early SMA detection.
As per the outlet, she is campaigning for the condition to be included in routine newborn screenings, hoping broader awareness can help other families avoid delayed diagnosis and access vital treatments sooner.
