In a heart-warming animal rescue story, actress Alicia Silverstone played a pivotal role in saving a pregnant terrier mix from being put down at an overcrowded San Bernardino animal shelter late last year.

After spotting a social-media post about the dog’s pending euthanasia, Silverstone reached out to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego, which immediately mobilized to pull the dog, now named Noel, from the shelter just hours before her scheduled death.

Moments after her rescue, Noel gave birth to a litter of puppies, 14 in total, of which 12 survived.

The Helen Woodward staff lovingly named the pups after elements of the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” including Drummer, Piper, Swan, and Partridge.

As per Daily Mail, on January 31, Silverstone visited the animal center with her 14-year-old son, Bear, to check on the family she helped save.

Moreover, the pair also took four of the puppies home to foster until mid-February, when they will become available for adoption.

Silverstone used the occasion to call on the public to adopt animals from shelters instead of purchasing from pet stores or breeders, highlighting how manageable and life-affirming animal rescue can be.
