Garrett Morris marked his 89th birthday with retrospection on his life rather than celebrating.

On February 1, 2026, the first Black cast member of the legendary show Saturday Night Live, the veteran actor and comedian, turned 89, one year away from nineties.

Morris, during an interview with PEOPLE magazine, shared how he will spend his big day, as he called it, "Ask me what I’ll be doing on my birthday.”

The legendary actor claimed, “Regretting the passage of time.”

Although the star had a commanding 50-year career in the entertainment business, he declared his true feelings instead of masking the truth of old age in Hollywood.

Morris pointed, “I mean, let's be realistic, there are less roles for an 80-year-old who's got arthritis — but there are roles out there.”

Initially, the star garnered immediate prominence with his original skits as an SNL cast member (1975-1980), later proceeding to prolific work in television.

His notable performances include The Jeffersons, Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show, and 2 Broke Girls

Moreover, he made a mark in the world of movies, in Car Wash and Cooley High.

This year, Car Wash will be 50 years old in October, and Cooley High marked half century on June 2025.

While speaking about his retirement, he said, “I just felt if you enjoy your work, why not do it to the best you can in whatever way you are asked to do it until you transform.”

At the age of 89, Morris does not seem to be ready to retire a career that he holds in high esteem.
